Shrimp & Grits (Creamy, Comforting, & Southern)

Ingredients

Grits:

  • 1 cup stone-ground grits
  • 4 cups water or broth
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Salt to taste

Shrimp:

  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled & deveined
  • 4 slices bacon
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Salt & pepper

Instructions

  1. Bring water to a boil; whisk in grits. Cook until thick and creamy.
  2. Stir in milk, butter, cheddar, and salt.
  3. Cook bacon until crispy; remove and chop.
  4. In bacon drippings, sauté garlic 30 seconds.
  5. Add shrimp, paprika, salt, pepper, and cook 2–3 minutes.
  6. Stir in lemon juice.
  7. Serve shrimp over creamy grits and top with bacon.
